A Unique Path with Contemporary Creative Practice

Having loved things related to music and images since high school, Ngoc Quy regularly explored and followed the images and artworks of his favorite people on Instagram, Behance, etc. In 11th grade, Ngoc Quy decided to pursue a career in Creative Arts. Going "against the tide" with popular majors favored by many young people, he chose to study Contemporary Creative Practice at the British University Vietnam (BUV) after graduating from high school.

Ngoc Quy's choice of study path was supported by his parents. "My parents didn't know much about this major, but they always supported my choice. At first, I was a bit worried about the future of the industry, but the more I studied, the more I saw the huge potential for development. Especially, this is a major that is in line with the trend at the moment. As long as you have good skills and a solid foundation, there will be many opportunities." - Ngoc Quy shared.

During his time at BUV, Ngoc Quy always actively sought opportunities to broaden his knowledge and hone his skills. In his first year of university, Ngoc Quy was the Design Team Leader for the school's first magazine. From his second year onwards, he had many opportunities to freelance with several clients such as Co Dong or 1900 le théâtre (doing motion graphics). At the same time, Ngoc Quy also participated in many different clubs such as BUV Volunteer Club, BUV Fashion Club, BUV English Club... With relentless efforts, Ngoc Quy was awarded the Academic Merit certificate by BUV for students with excellent academic achievements and the Contribution Award for students with positive contributions to the school's activities.

Thanks to his dynamism and excellent professional skills, after completing the Bachelor of Contemporary Creative Practice program in July 2021, Ngoc Quy received an "offer" from BUV for the position of Teaching Assistant, in charge of technical expertise in Graphic Design and Game Design at BUV.

Passion for Sharing and Transmitting Knowledge

Sharing about his work as a Teaching Assistant, Ngoc Quy said: "Since I was in high school, I have liked presenting and sharing knowledge with everyone. Becoming a Teaching Assistant at BUV is a great opportunity for me to share and transmit knowledge to students. So, when I received the information, my parents and I were very happy and also very proud." - Ngoc Quy shared.

For Ngoc Quy, the time spent studying at Greenfield School helped him express and develop his passion. Ngoc Quy recalled that the thing he liked most about Greenfield was the personalized education program that helped each student maximize their talents and passions. The teachers were also the source of inspiration for him to be more confident with his work as a Teaching Assistant at BUV.

Accumulating from what he has experienced, Ngoc Quy believes that when choosing a career for the future, students should choose the industry they love first. "You should be able to ask and answer the question: which field, which job can I sit for hours studying and working without feeling bored? If you haven't found a major you love, you shouldn't rush to choose randomly, choose a major. You can take a gap year, try everything you like according to your ability to find that field."

Ngoc Quy also advises those who are and will pursue the Contemporary Creative Practice major to correctly understand the importance of design thinking. "You should not equate drawing skills and design. If you are only good at design tools, you can still do design but only at the level of a "designer". Design thinking is what makes you different from others. However, you cannot "learn" design thinking in a day or two. It is a whole process of approaching, forming from doing projects, learning from history, culture... You can build creative inspiration by referring to many different sources, combining them based on your existing knowledge along with experimentation. This effective learning method has helped me a lot in the process of working."
