Bringing the Mid-Autumn Festival into every lesson

17/09/2024

At Greenfield School, alongside learning essential skills for development and integration in the modern era, students also explore national culture through major celebrations throughout the year. This Mid-Autumn Festival was not just seen through classroom windows or colorful chalkboards—it became a meaningful hands-on learning experience for our Cambridge Program students.

There was the excitement of our Grade 1 students as they crafted dragon puppets, the delight of our Grade 2 students making lanterns, the creativity of our Grade 3 students painting paper masks, the dexterity of our Grade 4 students designing star-shaped lanterns, and the meticulousness of our Grade 5 students creating lion heads. Meanwhile, our Grade 6 and 7 students explored the Mid-Autumn Festival through engaging dubbing and presentation activities.

With skillful hands, our Grade 1 students colored and assembled their own dragon puppets.
Our students worked together to create lanterns using paper plates and colored paper.

Admiring their hard work after an enthusiastic lesson, the students couldn't help but smile with excitement, eagerly showing off their creations to friends and teachers. During the lesson, they also learned English vocabulary related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Most impressively, they confidently practiced their English communication skills, engaging in continuous discussions and conversations with their native teachers.

Not only were the students excited, but even the native teachers were fascinated by the unique traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Amidst the fast-paced modern world, the full moon of the Mid-Autumn Festival continues to shine upon the cherished traditions of the past. Through these lessons in the Cambridge Program, students had the opportunity to connect with, experience, and preserve the cultural heritage of Vietnam. At the same time, our international teachers gained a deeper understanding of the festival and its traditional toys.
