Mathgo Finance Finals: 11th Graders apply mathematical knowledge to solve business problems

14/03/2025

In the ever-changing world of finance, the ability to analyze data and make decisions based on numbers is a key factor for success. Legendary investors like Edward O. Thorp and Jim Simons have demonstrated that sharp mathematical thinking is a powerful "weapon" to seize opportunities and build impressive trading careers with massive fortunes.

For the first time at Greenfield School, the Mathgo Finance 2025 competition serves as a playground for 11th graders who are passionate about finance and investment. Through real-world business scenarios, students have the opportunity to challenge themselves in a competitive environment, applying mathematical knowledge to the field of finance while building their confidence in mathematical competitions.

After an intense preliminary round held in each class, on the morning of March 14th, 9 teams (3 students per team) from 9 classes entered the Final Round to compete for the championship title. Here, the teams faced three challenging yet exciting rounds: Financial Expert, Market Turbulence, and Financial Investment.

The Mathgo Finance Finals took place with many exciting competition rounds.

Round 1 - Financial Expert: Teams answered multiple-choice questions on Quizizz, covering extended knowledge about taxes, savings, investments, and interpreting stock charts. Demonstrating solid financial knowledge, Team Sang Thu quickly took the lead with 7 correct answers, earning 70 points. Teams Pacific, TAB, 2875, Wall Street, and Infinity Fund all scored 40 points.

At the end of Round 1, Team Sang Thu took the lead with the highest score.

Round 2 - Market Turbulence: Teams applied theoretical knowledge to solve real-world problems, such as annuities, bank savings, investments, and installments. The hot seat team had the chance to press the buzzer to answer first. With solid understanding, flexible problem-solving, and strong competition skills, Teams Pacific, Sang Thu, and 2875 provided accurate answers. With the points gained, Team Sang Thu continued to lead in this round.

Round 2 was intense, requiring teams to demonstrate strong competitive spirit and the ability to effectively apply their knowledge.

Accumulating points from the first two rounds, the top three teams — Sang Thu, Pacific, and 2875 — advanced to the final round: Financial Investment. In this round, teams received a set of questions from the Organizing Committee and discussed their answers on paper within 10 minutes. Teams Pacific and 2875 quickly surged ahead, creating a tense atmosphere as both teams needed to answer a tie-breaker question to determine the winner. With their knowledge of insurance, risk management, and sharp analytical thinking, Team 2875 brilliantly claimed the championship title this year.

Champion of the Year: Team 2875
