Grade 6 students excitedly compose "Luc bat"poetry

"Luc bat" poetry is considered a quintessential part of Vietnamese literary heritage, beloved and widely composed throughout the country. This morning, in an open and inspiring space, Grade 6 students had the opportunity to showcase their poetic talents during a hands-on Literature lesson with the theme "Practicing Luc Bat Poetry."
Before that, the students were introduced to the structure and techniques of composing lục bát poetry in class. Through four levels of increasing difficulty—rearranging given lines, filling in missing words to complete a poem, perfecting "Luc bat" couplets, and finally composing their own poems—they gradually grasped the rules of rhythm, rhyme schemes, and pauses in this traditional poetic form.
At each level, the students worked together, discussing and brainstorming to complete their exercises efficiently. Arranging poetic lines in the correct order, selecting the right keywords to fill in blanks, and creatively crafting bát lines to match given lục lines were just some of the engaging and meaningful activities they experienced.
Before composing their poems, the students were guided to identify themes, topics, and emotions to spark fresh and unique ideas. Applying their newly acquired knowledge, they crafted poems on a variety of subjects, from nature to family. Though simple, each verse carried its own emotions, reflecting the students' keen observations and personal perspectives on the world around them.
“Poetry is the voice of the soul, the heartfelt expression of human emotions towards life.” Through this lesson, our students not only develop a deeper love for language but also learn to convey their thoughts and emotions through words. Hope that these beautiful verses and poetic rhythms will spark creativity, nurture their souls, and foster a lasting love for literature on their journey ahead.
