Learning to listen to emotions with Greenfield School's students
25/10/2024
“Today I feel very happy!”—This was the response from most elementary students when their teacher asked about their emotions during the session themed “Caring for Mental Health.” This activity is part of the Greenmind Month initiative, promoting mental health awareness among all staff and students at Greenfield School since the beginning of October.
During the session, students were introduced to mental health, the importance of emotional well-being, and strategies to identify and adjust their emotions positively. Additionally, the homeroom teachers provided various engaging activities to help students remember and absorb the information more effectively.
Through meaningful activities such as “Emotion Candy,” “When I’m…I…,” and “Secret Emotion Box,” students had the chance to share their feelings with peers and teachers. They identified personal strategies for when they feel happy, sad, or anxious, and learned to “name” their emotions in specific situations.
Suggestions from teachers to maintain a positive mindset included drinking water, observing nature, deep breathing, listening to music, exercising, and talking to adults. Practicing meditation and breathing exercises in class, students couldn't hide their excitement, sharing delightful feelings like “I feel so light” and “I feel relaxed” after the exercises.
Let’s spread positivity and care for mental health at Greenfield School so that every school day is a joyful experience for our students!
