10 Years with Teaching, 10 Years with Passion

10 years associated with Greenfield School, Ms. Phan Thanh Van (Math Teacher, Head of the Science Department of the High School) still passionately sows love and transmits inspiration to her students every day. That passion and enthusiasm of hers is nurtured by the maturity of many generations of students and from her own development process during many years of working at Greenfield School, since graduating with a Master's degree in Mathematical Analysis - Hanoi National University and entering the teaching profession.
Teaching - A Happy Profession
Born into a family with a mother who is a teacher, Ms. Phan Thanh Van's childhood memories are associated with the image of her mother diligently preparing lessons late into the night with a magical red pen. Thanks to that, she deeply understands the value, great responsibility, and happiness of the teaching profession. After graduating with a Master's degree in Mathematical Analysis (Hanoi National University), the young teacher Phan Thanh Van chose Greenfield School as the place to pursue her dream.
In the early days of standing in class, in front of both students who are passionate and those who have no love for Math, Thanh Van always pondered how to help them learn Math well and love Math. Then it was her colleagues and the children at Greenfield School at that time who helped her find a method, feel more confident and want to gắn bó deeply with the profession.
Instead of teaching pure Mathematics right at the beginning of the lecture, Thanh Van makes Math closer by sharing about applied Mathematics and then leading students back to the knowledge that needs to be taught. For Thanh Van, the value of each math problem does not lie in the formulas, the value behind each math problem is logical thinking, tight arguments, the ability to discover knowledge. When the children are allowed to do it themselves, discover everything, even if they may not love Math, they will still pay attention and be excited to participate in the lesson.
Besides, Thanh Van believes that if you want to equip students with something, you must be the one who possesses that thing first. "The most difficult thing about the teaching profession is not imparting knowledge but teaching students to be human, to be good people. A good teacher will show the good and the right through every word and the smallest action so that students can look at it, feel the good and the beautiful to follow. For example, if you want to teach children to care about the people around them, you must be the one who cares about them first. Or like teaching them patience, I must be determined to do it to the end so that they take it as motivation to continue.
I always try and strive to improve myself every day to not only teach them to learn Math but also become a sharer, a person who nurtures the fire, enthusiasm in each student who always strives for positive values. In the process of teaching and educating them, I realize that love, care, and respect are the important secrets for them to adjust their behavior, live true to their core values without any form of discipline."
10 Years with Teaching, 10 Years with Passion
10 years with the teaching profession is 10 years that Thanh Van has lived with her passion. She confided "Every moment of standing on the podium, for me it is happiness". And the greatest happiness until today is that nearly 10 generations of students have passed through her life. Besides those 10 generations are also 10 generations of parents. The most joyful thing is when a parent or student says to Thanh Van: "From a person who did not like to study Math, I have become serious and made more efforts to learn Math. The way you work, the way you teach with enthusiasm makes me feel that I should change. I believe that the greatest gift that education brings to me is to help me change my attitude."
And throughout the 10-year journey gắn bó with the teaching profession, Greenfield School has given her a feeling of being loved, trusted, and belonging. For Thanh Van, Greenfield School is not just a school but 10 years of youthful enthusiasm, the happiness she has always been looking for. There are teachers whom she always gives 2 words "gratitude" when working with because they have trusted, been tolerant and supported her in work and life. There are colleagues whom she is always proud to mention; there are generations of students with whom she has cried - laughed and grown up, become more mature through the process of accompanying them in learning.
"I am always grateful and feel extremely lucky to have lived, contributed and worked in accordance with my passion and mission statement of my life. I still remember the clumsiness of a Math teacher who first cut and pasted, painted to decorate the classroom so brilliantly and vividly to welcome the children back to school; I remember the evening when the whole Math team stayed to be student demos for me before the city-level Excellent Teacher exam; I remember the familiar question "What's new, Ms. Van?" of the first captain who led and accompanied us; I remember the tears, the loving hugs when saying goodbye to each ferry trip,... I am grateful to Greenfield School for giving young people like me opportunities, for allowing us to learn, to work with teachers who are both dedicated and talented, guiding and orienting us to be confident on the path we have chosen."
Cherishing every small detail in the profession to be more appreciative, to accumulate into a treasure of teaching methods, teaching people, teaching how to live for students, today, as a manager, Thanh Van said that it is also her way of training new generations of teachers. "Difficulties and challenges are just immediate problems. Looking at the long term, a happy teacher will change the whole world."
