Greenfield School students assert dominance in debate arena with runner-up finish at the Vietnam British Parliamentary Championship

05/02/2026

Competing against nearly 200 teams from secondary and high schools nationwide at the Vietnam British Parliamentary Championship, Greenfield School students delivered an outstanding performance to secure the Runner-up title in the English Division.

The 7th season of the Vietnam British Parliamentary Championship (VBC), hosted by Wellspring Hanoi on January 31 and February 1, 2026, drew nearly 200 teams from secondary and high schools across the country, alongside over 40 national and international judges.

The tournament featured three competitive divisions: VBC English, VBC Vietnamese, and VBC Spark (an open category for 5th and 6th graders). Utilizing the British Parliamentary (BP) format, students represented various policy-making entities to debate topics ranging from pressing global current events to hypothetical future policy choices.

Under the leadership of Tu Minh Anh (11G2), President of the Greenfield School Debate Club, the Greenfield School Ecopark Campus delegation entered 6 teams across all three divisions. Facing off against seasoned opponents, the 12 GFS "warriors" demonstrated remarkable courage and confidence throughout the rigorous rounds.

Following a series of intense intellectual battles, team Greenfield Astraea (Tu Minh Anh – 11G2 and Nguyen Manh Huy – 8C1) successfully punched their ticket to the VBC English Grand Final. In the ultimate showdown, they faced Dwight Bubble (Dwight School Hanoi), NSS KiA Pham (Nguyen Sieu), and Le Semoir we miss Vietnam WSDC (Hung Vương Specialized High School). The finalists debated the motion: "This house supports the idea that individuals owe a collective duty to contribute to society’s happiness."

Despite the clash of opposing viewpoints, all teams were highly commended by the adjudication panel for their robust logical structures, persuasive evidence, and engaging presentation styles. Ultimately, Greenfield Astraea secured the Runner-up position. Individual accolades were also awarded to: Tu Minh Anh (11G2): 9th Open Speaker (Top 9 English Division), Nguyen Manh Huy (8C1): 6th Junior Speaker (Top 6 Secondary School Speakers, English Division).

Team Greenfield Astraea delivered an outstanding performance, overcoming formidable opponents to secure the Runner-up title in the English Division.

"This is the fifth consecutive year the Debate Club has participated in VBC," shared Tu Minh Anh. "The increase in the number of participating teams and our Runner-up title are testaments to the positive debating culture we strive to maintain. For us, VBC is more than just a competition; it is a place where generations of debaters learn to grow, find their voices, and continuously reach further."

GFS extends its warmest congratulations to all our talented students! The school believes that beyond the trophies, the greatest value lies in the journey itself: the courage to speak, the ability to listen, the art of persuasion, and a profound respect for the truth. These qualities serve as the foundation for our students to confidently step into international academic and professional environments in the future.
