IELTS 8.0, SAT score in the top 1% globally
Duy Bach shared that he had a dream of studying abroad since 10th grade. He chose to go to Australia because of the leading quality of education, affordable living expenses and a large community of students. Setting clear goals, Duy Bach began to map out a meticulous plan and strive step by step to conquer his dream.
The University of New South Wales - one of the top public universities in Australia is the destination that Duy Bach is aiming for. Knowing the school's method of selecting candidates requires high SAT, IELTS scores, high Grade Point Average (GPA), Duy Bach focuses on studying, reviewing, and arranging everything scientifically.
From 10th grade, Duy Bach started preparing for the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) - a standardized aptitude test widely used for university admissions in the US, Australia, Canada... In his first exam in December 2021, Duy Bach scored 1530/1600 SAT, of which the Math score was 770, the Reading - Writing score was 760. This achievement helped Duy Bach reach the Top 1% of candidates with the highest SAT scores in the world.
Not only did he achieve excellent results in the SAT exam, Duy Bach also made an impression when he participated in the IELTS exam in January 2022 and achieved a band of 8.0. In which, the Reading score was 9, Listening 8.5, Writing 7.5 and Speaking 7.0. He also finished 12th grade with a GPA of 9.2.
Thanks to his excellent academic achievements, Duy Bach received an acceptance letter from the University of New South Wales after 2 months of submitting his application. In addition, he also received a scholarship equivalent to 114 million VND for the first academic year and 15% for each subsequent academic year at the school - the sweet fruit for a long journey of effort.
Hobbies go hand in hand with discipline
Sharing the secrets to achieving high results in learning, Duy Bach said that it is necessary to have a pre-existing love for learning, but at the same time, it is also necessary to be persistent and disciplined. 2 simple but extremely effective learning tips that the male student with the top 1% highest SAT score in the world and IELTS 8.0 applies include:
Tip 1: Understand the nature of the problem, practice regularly. When the teacher has corrected the lesson, you must carefully read the mistakes that the teacher has pointed out and correct them. In addition to the knowledge that the teacher teaches in class, you can take advantage of learning more knowledge online, refer to sample exams, practice online to supplement yourself and draw experience for yourself,
Tip 2: "Immerse yourself" in the English language everywhere, all the time. Learning a foreign language is a whole process, instead of rushing to study in the final years to get points, let yourself be exposed to English through simple things like watching movies, listening to music, reading news in English. Gradually, these things will form a learning habit without having to force yourself.
Although he achieved "dreamy" SAT, IELTS and GPA scores, Duy Bach believes that high standardized test scores are not a prerequisite to evaluate students. "IELTS certificates or any other form of scoring, such as GPA, SAT... show perseverance, that this person has spent how much time to achieve that result, but not the whole picture. I know some of you, although the exam scores are not too high, but have a rich extracurricular activity profile, have been admitted to very good schools. Therefore, students need to know which direction they are suitable for to have their own way" - Duy Bach shared.
Want to study Computer Science
Talking about choosing a major, Duy Bach said that he decided to study Computer Science at the University of New South Wales. This choice comes from a passion for exploring and learning about computers as well as being suitable for his introverted personality. Besides that, the need for high-quality human resources in Computer Science in a developing country like Vietnam is also a reason why Duy Bach is determined to pursue this difficult major with the desire to create practical and meaningful products for the community.
Joining Greenfield School from 4th grade, Duy Bach found that this is a school that helps him discover his potential and improve himself every day. "The teachers at Greenfield School are always enthusiastic to answer questions from students. When we need to correct lessons, the teachers are willing to help. At school, the knowledge taught is highly practical, for example, the Informatics program equips us with necessary office informatics skills or learning projects are opportunities for us to use informatics skills to solve problems."
Ms. Phan Thanh Van - Math Teacher commented on Duy Bach: "Bach is not an outstanding student in Math, but he has tried to improve to become one of the most excellent students in class 12A1. The achievements in GPA, IELTS and SAT do not make Bach arrogant. He does not hesitate to help other students to solve difficult math problems. What makes Bach loved by teachers and friends is his efforts to overcome weaknesses, high responsibility in learning and knowing how to share and care."
In September this year, Duy Bach will officially "go abroad", starting his journey to study in Australia. He also learns to cook to prepare for independent life and learns about culture to integrate into the new environment. Congratulations on Duy Bach's achievements and wish him memorable experiences in the journey ahead.
