Greenfield School Alumna Conquers Full Scholarship to Top University in Taiwan After One-Year Gap Year

Outstanding Achievement

  • 100% Scholarship to Providence University (Taiwan)

Nguyen Khanh Ly (former student of class 12A1, Greenfield School, class of 2018-2021) has just received a full scholarship to Providence University - one of the most prestigious universities in Taiwan, a member of the U12 group (12 best private universities in Taiwan). In particular, Khanh Ly was granted a 100% scholarship by Providence University for four years of study worth up to 1,520,000 Taiwan dollars (nearly 1.2 billion VND).

One-Year Gap Year to Reflect on Herself

One year ago, Khanh Ly was a student in class 12A1, Greenfield School. She had good academic achievements in all subjects. Moreover, Khanh Ly also actively participated in extracurricular activities, and was recognized by teachers and friends for her positive contributions.

After graduating from high school, unlike many of her peers, Khanh Ly decided to take a one-year gap year to discover what she really wanted for the future and develop her career as well as thoroughly equip herself with knowledge before studying at University. Khanh Ly's decision was enthusiastically supported by her parents, who understood and always believed in their daughter's decision.

Khanh Ly took advantage of the one-year gap year to both prepare her application and work part-time, study extra, and improve her health. She completed TOCFL 3 (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language), worked as a waitress in a cafe, tutored Math... Each job helped her improve her communication skills, time management experience, and become more confident and independent to "survive" in the multicultural environment of University.

At the beginning of February, Khanh Ly began her journey of "applying" to universities in Taiwan and received great success. Khanh Ly shared: "Taiwan has an interesting and unique culture. Taiwanese culture is a harmonious blend of traditional Eastern culture and the open, liberal culture of the West, not monopolizing any one culture. As someone who pursues many cultures like me, I really like to study in such an environment."

Providence University, located in Taichung (Taiwan) - where Khanh Ly received her admission letter, is one of the most prestigious universities in Taiwan, a member of the U12 group (12 best private universities in Taiwan). This is a dynamic university with many affiliate programs, attracting hundreds of international students from all over the world to exchange every year.

Active Extracurricular Activities Help Win Big Ticket

Khanh Ly said that Providence University requires preparing a dossier including: academic transcript, foreign language certificates, extracurricular activity certificates and a study plan for four years of University. With good academic results, a careful and scientific study plan, especially Khanh Ly's active extracurricular activities, she made a great impression on the Admissions Committee.

During her time at Greenfield School, Khanh Ly actively participated in extracurricular activities of the school and class. She was an active member of the Creative Writing Club (now the Greenfield Newsroom), regularly participated in writing contests organized by the school, and was a member of the Prom Communications Department in grades 10 and 11...

Khanh Ly said that being good at studying is not enough, actively participating in extracurricular activities is the best way to improve yourself. It was these extracurricular activities at Greenfield School that helped Khanh Ly equip herself with excellent soft skills: communication, presentation, teamwork,... find her strengths, especially helping her gain more advantages when "applying" for scholarships and developing her passion for the upcoming major.

According to the plan, in September 2022, Khanh Ly will officially become a freshman at Providence University. Regarding her major, she decided to pursue Communication. Sharing about this choice, Khanh Ly said: "At first, I wanted to study Graphic Design, but the one-year period was relatively tight for me to learn from the basics, so I chose Communication. I find myself having a knack for writing. The communication industry is also a pioneering industry in the digital age."

Being young and not afraid of a "gap year", for Khanh Ly, education is a lifelong matter. The regulations on the age to enter grades 1, 2, 3 or University are all set by society, while each person's path is different. "Derailing", slowing down a bit to look back at herself, preparing more carefully, breaking through for the next journey, for Khanh Ly, the "gap year" has brought her many valuable things.

Khanh Ly also has a few words to send to the students of the following classes - young people who cherish their dreams of studying abroad: "I hope that students can identify the destination they want to reach and determine the future they desire. If you don't know what you like or what you will do in the future, I hope you have the courage to take a gap year or two to go out and experience to determine your future destination."
