Applying design thinking, Grade 11 students propose ideas to improve the school environment.

In today’s ever-changing world, where young people face increasingly complex challenges, equipping them with creative problem-solving skills is essential.
To help students proactively approach, analyze, and develop effective solutions, the Design Thinking module has been incorporated into the curriculum for Grade 11 students of the Global Citizen Bilingual Program within the Personal Development Skills (PDS) subject.
Through this program, students engage fully with the internationally recognized Design Thinking framework – a human-centered problem-solving toolkit. They practice the five-step process: Empathize – Define – Ideate – Prototype – Test, learning that breakthrough solutions do not begin with assumptions but with deep listening and understanding of real needs.

At the end of the learning journey, the classroom transformed into a vibrant creative space during the final showcase (Showcase Day). Ten project groups from 11G1 and 11G2 represented ten colorful perspectives, reflecting students’ keen observations and their desire to improve the school environment. The projects covered multiple areas:
Learning & Management Solutions: Ideas such as Eduflow Project (deadline management app), SinhHub (study support community), Repositioning SAT strategy, and Overloaded Deadlines management solution.
Life Balance & Wellbeing: Focusing on mental and physical health with Re:Think Weekend (redefining rest days), The Sleeper (sleep campaign), and Thong Hai Coc (comfortable seating solution).
Future Orientation & Motivation: Addressing the concerns of 17-year-olds through Lost Career (actively designing future strategies) and Bucky Boost (motivating learning).
Optimizing Experiences: Considering sustainability and cost-effectiveness, such as the School Uniform project.

Here are some of the solutions for everyday life challenges that students ideated and implemented.
These projects went beyond creative ideas. Students confidently presented Empathy Maps to deeply understand users, Problem Tree analyses to reason logically, and tangible Prototypes – from product models and app interfaces to real-life experience scenarios.

Guidance and feedback from subject teachers during the presentations helped students refine their perspectives further. By the end of Showcase Day, Greenfield School believes that students not only gained a deeper understanding of Design Thinking but are also able to apply this method confidently to analyze problems and create innovative solutions.
