Be Psy Bucky No. 05: Decoding "Puppy Love" – Teenage Romance
21/02/2025
"What is the difference between love and liking someone? How can you tell if someone loves or just likes you?" "What are the signs that someone likes you?" "Is online dating a good idea?". These were some of the questions raised by 6th and 7th-grade students during today's Be Psy Bucky No. 05 workshop on the theme "Puppy Love".
The session not only helped students explore the concept of love but also provided them with the right perspectives on teenage romance. Under the guidance of Ms. Hoang Dieu Thuy, a school psychologist at Greenfield School, the students gradually unraveled the concept of love through Sternberg’s "Triangular Theory of Love." According to this model, the three points of the triangle represent the three fundamental components of love: Intimacy, Passion, and Commitment. The students also learned that a "crush" is merely a fleeting emotion, whereas true love requires understanding, trust, and mutual acceptance.

Adolescence is a time filled with innocent and pure first emotions. These feelings typically emerge between the ages of 12 and 18 as a natural psychological phenomenon in the process of growing up. However, for love to be a positive experience that does not interfere with academic performance and instead serves as a motivation for mutual growth, students should be in a healthy relationship. Ms. Diệu Thúy emphasized that a healthy relationship is one where both individuals respect each other and do not impose pressure that leads to distraction, insecurity, or loss of control, negatively affecting other relationships around them.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the "Psychodrama" activity, where students formed groups to create stories and role-play based on four randomly assigned cards (two character cards, one setting card, and one action card). Through these situational enactments, students learned how to respond to different scenarios, such as "How to protect yourself from inappropriate actions?" and "How to react when receiving a love confession in class?"

Initially hesitant, the students gradually became more open, actively sharing their thoughts and eagerly participating in the engaging activities. Hopefully, today’s workshop has helped them gain a deeper understanding of themselves, reducing confusion about the psychological changes of adolescence and guiding them in balancing relationships to live healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives each day.
