Fulbright Admissions officer "Tips" Greenfield School students on applying storytelling in college applications

Beyond transcripts, extracurricular activities, or outstanding achievements, what truly sets a college application apart is the students' personal story—the way they connect their experiences to express themselves uniquely and inspiringly.
- "How should I present myself in an interview to align with my application story?"
- "How can I effectively reflect my story in my Letter of Recommendation (LOR)?"
These were some of the questions Greenfield School students eagerly posed to Fulbright University Vietnam's admissions officers during the "Power of Storytelling" workshop on September 18. Beyond transcripts, extracurricular activities, and notable achievements, what truly differentiates a college application is the student’s personal story—the way they connect their experiences to express themselves uniquely and inspiringly.
Attentively listening to the insights shared by Fulbright's admissions officers, students gained valuable knowledge on how to present their applications effectively. With years of experience in Fulbright’s admissions process, Ms. Tran Thanh Nga emphasized that a great personal essay must introduce a challenge, the journey to overcoming it, and a thoughtful reflection. The essay should be concise, leaving room for imagination and curiosity from the admissions committee. Furthermore, understanding what qualities the university seeks allows students to convey their messages more effectively.
Ms. Thanh Nga also provided practical tips on expressing passion and authenticity during interviews. She encouraged students to choose recommenders who deeply understand their journey, ensuring strong and meaningful Letters of Recommendation.
In addition to storytelling strategies, Ms. Vo Huu Bao Nghi, another admissions officer, introduced updates on Fulbright University Vietnam’s admissions timeline and academic programs for the upcoming cycle. She also highlighted various scholarship and financial aid options, helping students explore opportunities that best suit their aspirations.
With the invaluable guidance from Fulbright’s admissions officers, Greenfield School believes that students have gained essential insights and confidence to craft compelling college applications and pursue their dream universities.
