Confident, quick-witted, and highly persuasive—these were the lasting impressions left by GFS Grade 4 and 5 contestants in the Semi-finals of the Top Speaker Kids 2026 English Public Speaking Competition. Now in its fourth year, the competition serves as a platform to develop language skills and nurture young speakers who are ready to express their opinions on everyday issues.
Following the class-level rounds, 64 contestants (16 teams from the two grades) advanced to the Semi-finals, competing in a direct face-off format. Each team delivered their speech based on a pre-assigned topic and stance (For or Against). Within a maximum of five minutes, each pair aimed to persuade the judging panel with strong arguments while also engaging in direct rebuttal by questioning their opponents to clarify and challenge their viewpoints.

This format created a highly professional and dynamic competitive atmosphere. This year’s topics focused on issues closely related to students’ experiences and age group, such as: “Primary school students should be banned from using smartphones at school,” “Recycling leads to increased plastic use,” “Making mistakes is better than always being right,” and “Robots are better companions than teachers,” among others.
Throughout the Semi-finals, contestants demonstrated remarkable confidence in presenting their ideas in front of an audience, supported by persuasive arguments and relevant examples. At the same time, each round helped students strengthen their critical thinking, teamwork, and quick-response skills as they listened, questioned, and responded to their opponents.
After a series of thrilling debates, congratulations to the top 10 pairs from each grade who have officially secured their spots in the Final round. Beyond titles and rankings, teachers believe that every moment on stage is a valuable opportunity for students to reinforce knowledge, build confidence, and apply language skills in real-life contexts.
Parents, teachers, and students are warmly invited to support these talented young speakers in the Final round on March 30. Detailed Semi-final results are available via the link in the comments section.
