Beyond textbook knowledge, real-life experiences at historical sites always help students develop a deeper understanding of their cultural roots. This morning, Grade 7 students had a meaningful educational visit to the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was an opportunity for them to directly experience and appreciate the outstanding cultural and historical values of Vietnam spanning thousands of years.
At the site, students listened to guided explanations about Doan Mon Gate—the most important main entrance to the Forbidden City—and Kinh Thien Palace, the highest symbol of national power of Dai Viet across centuries. In this solemn and historic setting, students gathered in the palace courtyard to perform an offering ceremony, presenting tribute texts and incense to honor the former emperors. This activity allowed them to express deep gratitude for the nation’s proud heritage.
The journey continued as students explored the exhibition “Thang Long – Hanoi: A Thousand Years of History Beneath the Ground,” where they observed valuable artifacts reflecting over 13 centuries of history. They also visited thematic exhibitions such as “Royal Examinations – The Pinnacle of the Imperial Examination System,” “The Majesty of Dragons,” and learned about the strategic command center of the Vietnam People’s Army during the resistance war against the United States at the “D67 House and Bunker.”

Notably, students had the chance to review their knowledge of the Imperial Citadel through interactive questions and share their reflections after the visit. The fun activity of making traditional hand fans also brought excitement and joy to many students. These meaningful experiences brought the trip to a close with lasting memories.
The hands-on experiences throughout the journey not only provided a vivid understanding of the ancient capital of Thang Long across different historical periods but also enriched students’ knowledge of the nation’s heroic past. GFS believes that after this journey, students will develop a deeper love for their country and a stronger sense of responsibility in preserving national heritage in the future.
