Grade 8 and 9 Students compete in listening and speaking skills at the Golden Ears Final
10/10/2024
After an intense classroom qualifying round, this morning, 30 outstanding Grade 8 and 9 students advanced to the Golden Ears Final. This exciting academic competition provides students with a valuable opportunity to practice their English listening and speaking skills in both academic and real-life contexts.
At the competition, six teams competed in four intense yet exciting rounds. Notably, each five-member team was randomly formed with students from different classes, maximizing opportunities for learning and interaction in teamwork.
Round 1 - Tune & Tone: Teams listened to seven questions with answer choices in images and selected the correct one. The "distracting" details in the audio challenged players to think carefully and choose the most accurate image. With exceptional focus, Team 1 (8A4, 8G1, 8A2, 9A2, 9G2), Team 2 (8A6, 8A3, 8G1, 9A6, 9A1), Team 3 (8A4, 8A1, 8A2, 9A1, 9A5), and Team 4 (8A2, 8G1, 9A2, 9A4) achieved a perfect score of 7 points.

Round 2 - Hear it, tag it!: Teams listened to audio and marked locations on a map. The maximum score for this round was 5 points. With excellent directional skills, Team 3 (8A4, 8A1, 8A2, 9A1, 9A5) and Team 6 (8A5, 8G1, 9A1, 9A4) quickly identified the correct locations and earned the highest scores.

Round 3 - Doodle & Decode: Teams listened to audio and illustrated what they heard. Strong listening skills and creativity helped Team 3 (8A4, 8A1, 8A2, 9A1, 9A5) produce a complete and accurate drawing, securing 6 points, maintaining their dominant position with the highest scores across three rounds.

Round 4 - Problem Buster: Teams listened and responded to a scenario within 3 minutes. Team 2 (8A6, 8A3, 8G1, 9A6, 9A1) quickly developed a logical and effective solution, achieving the highest score of 16.5/20.
