Grade 8C1 students explore the business model of Bat Trang Ceramic Village
14/02/2025
To provide students with the opportunity to explore business projects and the subject of Business Studies (taught in the A Level program of the Cambridge International Curriculum from Grade 9), this morning (February 14, 2025), they participated in an experiential learning trip to Bat Trang Ceramic Village (Gia Lam, Hanoi).
Dating back to the 14th century, Bat Trang is one of the oldest traditional craft villages in Vietnam. To this day, ceramic production and trade in Bat Trang continue to thrive and develop. The village is currently home to nearly 200 enterprises and around 1,000 households engaged in ceramic production and business.

During their experiential learning trip, the students had the opportunity to visit three ceramic production and business households, each operating under a different model. At a traditional production household, they witnessed firsthand the entire crafting process, admiring artisans as they skillfully shaped, molded, and painted ceramic products entirely by hand.

In addition, the students explored the experiential tourism model at Lo Bau to gain insights into modern business practices. While not the first of its kind, Lo Bau has become one of the most successful enterprises in Bat Trang, intertwining the story of Vietnam’s oldest ceramic kiln with the dream of visitors who wish to try their hand at being an artisan.

As part of the trip, the students also visited the Bat Trang Ceramic Museum—the first and only museum in Vietnam dedicated to the history of ceramics. Besides showcasing the rich heritage of ceramic craftsmanship, the museum serves as a commercial hub, displaying thousands of ceramic artworks in various designs and styles.

Through their museum visit, the students not only deepened their understanding of how generations of Bat Trang villagers have preserved their ancestral craft but also learned valuable lessons about consumer trends, the application of technology in smart tourism, and ways to unlock the economic potential of traditional craft villages.
