Greenfield school grade 12 students write letters to their future selves in 10 years

05/03/2026

Recently, the grade 12 students of Greenfield school had an experiential Literature lesson with the theme "a letter to my future self in 10 years."

"I want to ask you, after 10 years, have you become the person i once hoped for? actually, i don't expect everything to be perfect, i only hope that throughout those 10 years, you dared to try the things you feared, dared to step out of your comfort zone, and lived your life to the fullest for our youth."

"If 10 years from now you have achieved the accomplishments, dreams, and ambitions of age 18, then remember that those things came from early mornings going to school and late nights studying; those are the solid bricks to build a grand castle containing a bright and brilliant future."

"No matter how you are, i hope you will always be a flower that keeps blooming. it's okay if you fall, it's fine if you're not happy, don't mind if you're exhausted, i only hope you live leisurely in your own world and never stop moving forward; i and our family will always support you."

The emotional thoughts above are part of the letters written by grade 12 students during an experiential Literature lesson with the theme “a letter to my future self in 10 years.” To give the students space to dialogue with themselves, the subject teachers organized the lesson right on the school yard. Under the cool early spring weather, reflections on dreams and ambitions at age 18 were authentically expressed on white pages.

Each student has their own perspective and visualization of their future self. Some chose a confiding and whispering writing style, while others asserted their determination through strong and energetic lines. Regardless of the style, each letter was an opportunity for them to look back at their worries and the things they are striving to achieve, thereby appreciating the present more and being more responsible for their own choices.

Through observing the students sending deep thoughts about the connection between the past and the future, ms. Tran Quynh Mai - a Literature teacher shared: “Applying this form of experiential learning not only encourages students to express personal thoughts and simultaneously develop writing skills and future thinking, but also creates a space for teachers to better understand the concerns of students during their final school years.”

These letters to the future are like bridges of knowledge, helping students cultivate their vocabulary and practice positive thinking about life.
