Students learn how to nurture and care for their emotions through the psychology workshop “Light Up Your Soul.”

“How can we identify and name our emotions? What types of stress are there? How should we cope with stress?” The psychology workshop “Light Up Your Soul”, part of the “Rest Stop” project, guided middle school students in exploring answers to these questions.

With the aim of helping students slow down amid the fast pace of daily life and take time to reflect on and listen to their own emotions, the program was held over two days, December 17–18. Notably, the workshop was designed as an open dialogue, creating opportunities for students to actively interact, share, and connect with psychology professionals through friendly and approachable activities.
The “Rest Stop” project itself was conceived as an open conversation space, encouraging students to engage, express themselves, and build meaningful connections.
At the beginning of the workshop, the activity “What Color Is Your Leaf?” helped students identify and name their emotions through familiar colors such as green, yellow, orange, and red—each representing different levels of stress. The deeper the color, the higher the level of stress. Through these “emotional leaves,” students had the opportunity to reflect on their current mental state, while school psychologists were able to listen to and better understand each individual student.
To help students feel more comfortable opening up and sharing their thoughts, they also took part in a range of engaging and enjoyable activities throughout the workshop.
In this open and supportive environment, students were introduced to foundational knowledge about stress, including its definition, common signs, and its effects on emotions and behavior. The workshop also helped students clearly distinguish between acute stress and chronic stress, while exploring appropriate coping methods through two widely used strategies: problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping. As a result, students gained a clearer understanding of when and how to apply each strategy in different real-life situations.
 
Each “rest stop” does not offer ready-made formulas to solve every problem; instead, it provides students with a source of support—the ability to listen to their own emotions and actively seek help when needed. Rest Stop 01 – “Light Up Your Soul” thus truly became a place for students to pause, rest, listen, and reflect on their inner emotional world.
