Understanding to nurture – Because yeachers are more than just givers of knowledge

“First Aid for Hurt Feelings” was organized with the aim of supporting teachers on their journey of educating students with empathy and compassion, working together toward a happy and nurturing school environment.
“If I’m not good at every subject, does that mean I’m a failure?”
“What defines a student with special educational needs?”
“How can teachers identify and nurture students’ unique talents in large classrooms with limited time?”
These were just a few of the meaningful questions explored by Greenfield School’s Primary teachers during the two-day training program “First Aid for Hurt Feelings”, held on July 9 & 10, 2025.

Led by Ms. Pham Huong Thu, a counselor from the School Psychology Department, the training focused on helping teachers decode the hidden messages behind children's behavior. When a student yells, throws things, or withdraws into silence, it's not simply a matter of being “naughty” or “stubborn.” What that child needs in that moment is not criticism or neglect, but a calm and empathetic adult who can help them feel safe and loved.
To untangle the emotional knots students carry, teachers must patiently observe, identify those with special educational needs, and collaborate with families and specialists to support the child’s development. Because sometimes, just a gentle glance or a well-timed word of encouragement from a teacher can be the small bridge that leads a troubled child back to emotional peace.
Through this open and insightful learning opportunity, teachers were also encouraged to share their personal experiences in working with students. These heartfelt stories not only offered new perspectives on real-world challenges but also became a powerful source of inspiration, reminding educators why they chose this profession and rekindling their love and compassion for their students.
At Greenfield School, we believe that a great teacher does more than fill students with knowledge — they are someone who sees potential where others may not and gives each child the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.
We hope that, following this training, each teacher feels more confident in their role as a compassionate guide — more attuned to the emotions and behaviors of their students, and always ready to open their arms wide so that every child knows: There is always a trusted adult by your side when you need one.
