12 Year Old Greenfield School Student Becomes a National Master in Chess

Outstanding Achievement

  • National Master (Vietnam Chess Federation)
  • 1 of 2 Vietnamese people who own a chess course sold on Chessable.com
  • 3 Gold Medals at the National Youth Chess Championship
  • Bronze Medal at the 2022 International Masters Chess Tournament

At just 12 years old, Banh Gia Huy (Grade 7C1, Greenfield School) - an outstanding young chess player from Greenfield School - scored 6.5 points (achieving 70% of the total points) after 9 rounds of competition in the 2021 National Team Chess Championship. With this achievement, he has met the criteria to be awarded the title of National Master in Chess.

Not stopping there, recently, a chess course written by Gia Huy himself was published and sold on Chessable.com - a world-famous online chess learning website. Gia Huy is the first Vietnamese person to publish a course on Chessable and also the youngest person to publish a course on the topic of openings on this website. (In Vietnam, there are only 2 people who have published courses on Chessable: Gia Huy and Grandmaster Le Quang Liem - Vietnam's No. 1 chess player).

On Chessable, Simon Williams - a British Grandmaster expressed his surprise about Gia Huy's course: "The course is truly special, because the author of this course is only 12 years old. The boy has compiled very unique opening tactics and given extremely good explanations for the opening moves. I believe that this National Master has a bright future ahead of him."

The course is written entirely in English with a total of more than 50,000 words, the result of 6 months of Gia Huy's tireless research. Gia Huy shared: "I regularly access Chessable to learn and cherish the desire to become one of the authors on the website. I read English books every day, so writing the course in English was not too difficult. When writing, if I encounter any difficulties, I will ask Ms. Nhung (Greenfield School English Teacher) for help and check it myself with software. Currently, I am starting to write 2 more courses. I hope the courses will continue to be published in the near future."

Gia Huy's course is suitable for students who play chess well and want to study openings in depth. Parents and students can learn about the course at the Chessable link: https://bit.ly/HuysOriginalRepertoire-Spielmann-Indian.
