From a Shy Student to a 2019 World Office Informatics Ambassador

Outstanding Achievement

Champion with a Passion for Informatics

The 2019 National World Office Informatics Championship has closed and the faces of the 3 ambassadors representing Vietnam to participate in the World Finals in New York City, USA at the end of July 2019 have been revealed. They are Le Khang Hieu (Greenfield School), champion of the Microsoft PowerPoint category; Nguyen Luu Hoang Anh (Dinh Thien Ly High School), champion of the Microsoft Word category; and Tran Hoang Anh (Foreign Trade University), champion of the Microsoft Excel category. Among them, Le Khang Hieu was the contestant who achieved the highest score in the shortest time in the Scenario exam (simulating real-life situations to require candidates to perform a series of operations to create a complete product).

Overcoming more than 1,000 excellent contestants from 105 teams selected from hundreds of thousands of students across the country to win the highest position, Hieu admits that his academic achievements are nothing outstanding. The somewhat shy and timid student shared that he is just like his peers, only slightly different in that he has a passion for Informatics.

Sharing his feelings after receiving the highest award, Hieu said: "I am very happy and also very surprised to achieve this result. Before entering the national final round, I was a bit nervous because after the national qualifying round, my score was only ranked 27/40.

After knowing the results, I was extremely surprised to know that I was this year's champion. I feel very excited for the upcoming trip to the US but also a bit worried because I will have to compete with strong opponents around the world. Besides, the achievements that the Vietnamese team has achieved in previous years are very high, so I cannot avoid some pressure."

Success Comes from Effort

Achieving such an admirable achievement, but few people know that Hieu's success does not come from luck, but it is the result of unremitting training and effort. Before becoming the champion of the MOSWC 2019 World Office Informatics Championship, Hieu participated in MOSWC 2017, MOSWC 2018 and respectively achieved Top 7 National Qualifier, Third Prize National Final. Not satisfied with what he has achieved, Hieu feels that he needs to make more efforts to improve himself.

Sharing his secrets to studying Office Informatics well, Hieu said: For Office Informatics, just practice a lot and be willing to explore more new features, you will have many good skills. In the MOSWC competition, the Scenario exam requires accuracy and speed, so practice is very necessary. In addition to the lessons in class, I often practice at home or find exercises online to improve myself.

Having been in contact with computers since he was young, starting from a low-configuration computer, Hieu began learning about office informatics in middle school and immediately became passionate about these subjects, especially Microsoft PowerPoint. In 2017, when he moved to study at Greenfield School (Ecopark Urban Area), he was exposed to the international standard ICT program and was introduced by teachers to prestigious competitions for students to have the opportunity to participate and develop their abilities, Hieu boldly registered to participate.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (Informatics Teacher, Greenfield School) - who directly accompanied Hieu in the process of preparation shared: "The nature of the Informatics program at Greenfield School is in accordance with the copyrighted international ICT program, so students will not encounter too many surprises when participating in the MOSWC exams. However, the more difficult thing about the exam is that 100% of the exam questions are in English; secondly, the participating opponents have a wide age range, including students from universities with strong IT programs, so students will inevitably feel pressure. However, Hieu and his teammates made a miracle, but that is the miracle of the whole process of their efforts, not too surprising for teachers and friends."

Sharing about his plans in the near future, Hieu revealed that after graduating from high school, he will pursue his dream of becoming a good programmer or graphic designer in the future. In the immediate future, he will prepare well for the journey in the US.

"My goal is to win the Gold medal at the World Finals. When I have become a MOS Ambassador, it means that I am representing Vietnam to compete, not competing for myself anymore. Therefore, I will try to overcome myself and not disappoint those who always support me."

It is known that in addition to receiving the international MOS certificate issued by Microsoft with global validity, the Creative Youth Badge awarded by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to the 2019 MOS Ambassador, Hieu and the other 2 ambassadors will have the opportunity to receive a prize of up to 7000 USD.

Wishing the 3 MOSWC 2019 ambassadors in general and Hieu in particular good health and a steady mentality to confidently compete with friends around the world, win the highest awards and continue to engrave Vietnam's name on the world intellectual map.
