Grade 10G2 students join hands to bring new smiles to Vietnamese children with Operation Smile

19/12/2025

Three months of ideation and implementation; dozens of hours spent on communication, fundraising, and community outreach; and 26 students working together with one shared commitment—this was the dedicated journey of the community project “Smiles Unfolded”, carried out by Grade 10G2 students of Greenfield School.

On December 19, the project officially came to a close with a visit to Operation Smile Vietnam, during which 70 meaningful gifts were presented.

“Smiles Unfolded” was initiated from a profound realization: when we join hands, we can help change the world—one smile at a time. With this belief, the students proactively researched, reached out, and chose to partner with Operation Smile Vietnam, the largest volunteer organization providing free cleft lip and palate surgeries and related care for children, with the hope of bringing new smiles to underprivileged children.

On December 19, Grade 10G2 students visited Operation Smile Vietnam.

Throughout the project, the students engaged in hands-on experiences such as listening to insights from Mr. Ngo Minh Hoang, Student Program Coordinator at Operation Smile Vietnam, who shared the organization’s mission, humanitarian values, and social impact; organizing the fundraising workshop “Touch of Clay”; and calling for toy donations within the school community and across social media platforms.

The outcome of this journey was 70 “Smile Bags”, carefully prepared by the students themselves and delivered to children with cleft lip and palate through Operation Smile Vietnam. At the donation ceremony, Mr. Ngo Minh Hoang highly praised the students’ efforts: “Despite the challenges faced during the project, the sense of responsibility, perseverance, and determination to see the project through shown by the entire Grade 10G2 cohort is truly commendable.”

The project “Smiles Unfolded” was honored with a certificate of recognition from the organization.
Doan Nguyen Phuong Linh, Deputy Project Leader, shared: “For many people, the issue of children born with cleft lip and palate may seem distant. However, the statistics are alarming—each year in Vietnam, around 3,000 children are born with this condition. We believe that ‘Smiles Unfolded’ is a meaningful project that walks alongside disadvantaged children, because every child deserves a complete smile.”
During the visit, the Grade 10G2 cohort also toured and interacted at the Hanoi headquarters of Operation Smile Vietnam.
When students are trusted and given opportunities and responsibilities, they are fully capable of creating lasting humanitarian values. “Smiles Unfolded” stands as a powerful testament to the significance of the Community Project subject—not only helping students learn how to implement a project, but also nurturing them to become young global citizens, ready to spread compassion and drive positive change in society.
