Successful "Hayday" fundraiser: Class 11C1 students empower local farmers with sustainable livelihoods
21/12/2025
With nearly 7 million VND raised through the "Hayday - Gifting Livestock, Sowing Golden Harvests" project, students from Class 11C1 embarked on a meaningful journey to donate 150 breeding chickens, along with essential supplies and feed, to underprivileged farmers in Thanh Oai District, Hanoi.
Inspired by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) studied in their Community Project course, the students of Class 11C1 (GFS Ecopark Campus) developed the "Hayday" initiative. The project specifically targets Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, aiming to support low-income farming households by providing the means to build a sustainable livelihood.
The journey began in mid-October when students launched a Pocky snack stall and organized handicraft workshops. This simple yet purposeful business venture served a dual role: raising funds for the cause while allowing students to hone their management, organizational, and marketing skills. After three months of dedicated effort, the class collected nearly 7 million VND to bring their vision to life.
On December 20, in collaboration with the "Thank You Vietnam" Fund, the students visited Thanh Oai to hand over 150 breeding chickens and poultry feed. Beyond the donation, the students personally assisted farmers in setting up hygienic coops. These small contributions serve as a vital "livelihood anchor," providing residents with the confidence and motivation to pursue sustainable poverty alleviation.

During the event, Mr. Mai Viet Duc, Founder and CEO of the "Thank You Vietnam" Fund, shared: "With this contribution, these students have provided more than just material value; they have spread a spirit of compassion and social responsibility. By sharing with others, you receive something deeply meaningful in return—learning how to mature and appreciate your own lives. Thank you for your responsible and loving partnership."
Reflecting on the experience, Vi Anh (Class 11C1) noted that the project was not without its hurdles, including ensuring food safety, managing sales shifts, navigating fluctuating customer numbers, and balancing costs. However, these challenges underscored the importance of teamwork and strengthened their entrepreneurial mindset, time management, and communication skills.
The success of the "Hayday" project once again affirms the value of the Community Project curriculum. Through this subject, students take the initiative to explore, create, and develop their mindsets through tangible actions for the community. These experiences provide the essential foundation for students to grow into resilient and socially-conscious leaders of the future.
