Greenfield School joins hands with teachers and students in Yen Bai to rebuild lives after Typhoon Yagi

08/10/2024

In early September, Typhoon Yagi made landfall, severely impacting the midland and mountainous regions of northern Vietnam. Many schools in remote communes and villages suffered significant losses. Sharing the hardships of teachers and students in the flood-affected areas, Greenfield School launched the program "Greenfield Joins Hands – Spreading Love."

After kick-off, "Greenfield Joins Hands – Spreading Love" received overwhelming support from the entire Greenfield School community, marking a meaningful initiative that shines with the spirit of solidarity and compassion. In just one week, Greenfield teachers and students successfully raised 14,295 notebooks, 6,832 textbooks and storybooks, 12,460 pens and learning tools, along with thousands of heartfelt greeting cards filled with warm wishes for students and teachers in the flood-affected areas.

The meaningful gifts were carefully sorted and organized before being delivered to the teachers and students in the flood-affected areas.

Handwritten cards with heartfelt messages from our students were sent to encourage the teachers and students in the flood-affected areas.

On October 4th, a truck carrying these thoughtful gifts set off for Xuan Ai Secondary School and Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School in Van Yen District, Yen Bai Province. The aftermath of Typhoon Yagi left both schools in a state of severe damage, with deteriorating infrastructure, waterlogged books, and unusable learning materials. Additionally, landslides caused by heavy rain disrupted roads, forcing many students to stay at school for days.

Many students had to stay at school due to the impact of the historic Yagi storm.

Beyond the donated books, notebooks, and school supplies, Greenfield School also provided teaching equipment, classroom furniture, and greenery, funded by the Greenfield Compassion Fund. This practical support not only helped teachers and students restore their daily learning activities but also inspired Greenfield students to embrace kindness, empathy, and social responsibility.

Teachers and students of Greenfield School personally assembled and set up the donated desks and chairs for Xuan Ai Secondary School and Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School.
The green trees were planted right in the schoolyard.
Teachers and students of Greenfield School helped clean up and renovate the library with hundreds of donated and categorized books.

Reflecting on the journey, Doan Phuong Mai (11G2) shared: “Though carrying and organizing the supplies required time and effort, I didn’t feel tired at all. On the contrary, I was happy to personally hand these gifts to the students. It was a heartwarming experience, and I truly understood the value of sharing and helping the community.”
