"RE:MILK" - Join 10G2 students in collecting cartons, spreading green living

10/03/2025

Milk cartons are considered one of the most challenging waste types to decompose and recycle, as they are made from a combination of materials like paper, aluminum, and plastic. Every year, Vietnam generates about 10 to 15 billion milk cartons (equivalent to 100,000 - 150,000 tons) into the environment, of which only around 5% are collected and recycled properly.

As part of the Community Service subject, this morning, 10G2 students had a meeting with representatives from Lagom Vietnam - the community partner they will collaborate with for the "RE:MILK" project this term. The project aims to promote a green lifestyle and raise environmental awareness by collecting and recycling milk cartons.

Founded in 2019 by a group of young civil engineers in Hanoi, Lagom specializes in collecting and recycling beverage cartons, contributing to the green economy and reducing the impact of low-value waste on the environment. Currently, Lagom operates two Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. By 2023, the company has successfully collected and recycled over 700 tons of milk cartons into products like coat hangers, plant pots, and flower vases.

During the meeting, Ms. Khanh Linh - Project Management Officer, introduced the students to the organization, the structure of milk cartons, the process of sorting, collecting, and recycling them, as well as how to handle and pack cartons properly. The students were also excited to get hands-on experience with recycled products from Lagom. Many questions were actively raised as the students aimed to better understand the project, plan effectively, and coordinate smoothly with their community partner for successful project implementation.

Every small action today can lead to big changes in the future. Greenfield School hopes that this meeting will serve as a solid stepping stone for the students to confidently implement practical plans and carry out the project successfully, bringing positive value to the community.

Starting tomorrow until the end of March, the milk carton collection booth will be set up by 10G2 students in the schoolyard from 10:25 to 10:45. Students are encouraged to bring their milk cartons to the collection booth to spread green living and contribute to environmental protection through the smallest actions!
