As part of the community project “Smiles Unfolded” carried out by the students of class 10G2 (Global Citizenship Bilingual Program) this semester, on the morning of September 20, the students had the opportunity to meet representatives from Operation Smile to gain a deeper understanding of the organization and congenital facial deformities.
Accompanying the students was Mr. Ngô Minh Hoàng, Student Program Coordinator at Operation Smile Vietnam. With years of experience working with the organization, he brought the students authentic and relatable insights, helping them gain a clearer understanding of one of the world’s most reputable non-governmental organizations specializing in cleft and facial surgery.
Founded in 1982, Operation Smile has been active globally for over 40 years, providing hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for underprivileged children. In Vietnam alone, over the past 35 years, the organization has carried out 704 programs, offering treatment to 75,000 patients. Many initiatives such as “Helping Hands”, “Smile Bag”, and “Christmas Smile” have also successfully raised funds, bringing thousands of free smiles to children in need.
The meeting provided valuable insights to support the students’ community project “Smiles Unfolded.”
The atmosphere was lively and full of enthusiasm. For many students, it was their first time learning about a community project related to facial deformities and collaborating with a major international organization — an experience that sparked great excitement. Project leader Nguyễn Trọng Hưng shared: “I hope our class’s project will bring more joy and happiness to the children.”
The 10G2 class also took a group photo with the guest speaker.
The session not only broadened the students’ understanding but also marked an important first step for 10G2 in engaging with community work and organizing fundraising activities in the near future. It was a meaningful opportunity for them to turn knowledge into action and transform compassion into concrete, practical efforts.
Stay tuned and continue to follow the students on their inspiring journey with the “Smiles Unfolded” project!
