On the morning of September 16, students of class 11G1 – Greenfield Ecopark Campus – took part in an experiential visit to VAPs (Vietnam’s Autism Project), one of the pioneering social enterprise models supporting individuals with autism in Vietnam.
The name “Lam Sáng” draws inspiration from “lam” — the color blue that symbolizes the autism community. The word “Sáng” (meaning “light” in Vietnamese) reflects class 11G1’s belief that every individual with autism has their own unique value and potential. Through this project, the students aim to raise social awareness about autism while taking practical actions to connect, share, and spread these values within the community.
At VAPs, the students had the opportunity to meet and interact with employees on the autism spectrum, gaining a deeper understanding of their world. Despite communication challenges, many possess remarkable strengths such as exceptional memory, deep concentration, or talents in mathematics, art, music, and languages. These abilities — combined with their perseverance — deeply impressed and inspired the students.
During their visit, 11G1 students also experienced some of the daily tasks performed by VAPs employees, including making pizzas, managing inventory, assisting with sales, and organizing store spaces. These hands-on experiences allowed the students to better understand the nature of the work and served as valuable preparation for the upcoming phases of their “Lam Sáng” project.
Mr. Nguyễn Đức Trung, a representative of VAPs, shared: “People with autism can absolutely lead meaningful, productive lives. We believe that the sincerity, empathy, and willingness to listen and understand that the students brought to VAPs today will help foster a more inclusive and compassionate community.
Nguyễn Bùi Hải Tùng (class 11G1) also reflected on the experience: “I realized that everyone has their own special abilities — and people with autism are no different. I’m happy to have learned so many valuable things today and excited to take part in meaningful actions to help change society’s perception of autism.”
At the end of the visit, 11G1 students received souvenir gifts from VAPs, and both sides took commemorative photos together.
We invite parents to look back at the memorable moments from 11G1’s visit to VAPs and stay tuned for the next meaningful activities in the “Lam Sáng” project!
