10C1 students bring legal knowledge to children in remote areas

17/11/2025

Students from Class 10C1 launched the "Know Your Rights" project with a great aspiration: to sow the seeds of equality and sustainable development in disadvantaged regions.

Punctual attendance, rapt attention, staying until the end, and confident participation were the hallmarks of a legal education and dissemination session recently held at the Thu Ngac Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Secondary School in Tan Son, Phu Tho province. Notably, the confident presenters on stage, sharing legal knowledge with the local students, were themselves only 15-year-old high schoolers.

Recognizing the reality that many children in remote areas have never learned about children’s rights or basic laws for self-protection, students from Class 10C1 (Cambridge International Program, GFS Ecopark Campus) initiated the “Know Your Rights” project. Their major aspiration is to sow the seeds of equality and sustainable development in these challenging regions.

Starting in September, and guided by their teachers, the students began executing various activities: researching legal codes, communicating about the project on social media platforms, and designing an appropriate awareness program. Crucially, they also organized a book donation booth to enrich the school’s library, aiming to spark a reading culture and a passion for knowledge among the local students.

After nearly three months of diligent preparation, the “Know Your Rights” awareness program officially debuted for the students of Thu Ngac Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Secondary School on November 15. Through dramatized stage performances, the 10C1 students presented humorous skits, helping the younger children better understand the five rights outlined in the Law on Children and basic provisions related to the Law on Marriage and Family and the Law on Road Traffic Safety. The theatrical format made the program engaging, easy to understand, and memorable.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Diep, Principal of Thu Ngac Semi-Boarding Ethnic Minority Secondary School, observed the program and expressed her appreciation: “Although they are only about a year older than our students, the GFS students showed remarkable enthusiasm, positive energy, and a precious spirit of volunteerism. The school highly appreciates their kindness in visiting, presenting practical gifts, and organizing such a beneficial and meaningful legal education program".

For Yen Nhi, a member of the “Know Your Rights” Core Team, the project marked a significant stage in her personal development, offering experience in team leadership, event organization, and emotional control required to collaborate toward a common goal. For Trong Duc, performing on stage and hearing the cheers and encouragement from the local children was a source of true happiness.

“Know Your Rights” clearly demonstrates that a community project does not need to start with grand gestures; all positive change can stem from small actions. Congratulations to the 10C1 students on completing such a meaningful project, and we wish them continued success in using their knowledge not just for themselves, but to spread goodness throughout the community.
