Grade 8 Students Tell Science Stories and Uncover the Secrets of Human Body Systems at the Grand Finale of “Science Stories – Understanding the Human Body”

16/02/2024

Scientific knowledge, often considered complex and dry, was transformed by Grade 8 students into vivid stories and creative stage performances, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the human body while learning how to take better care of their own health.

At the Grand Finale of the interdisciplinary Natural Sciences (NS) and Literature experiential project “Science Stories – Understanding the Human Body,” the 13 best teams from the preliminary round officially entered an exciting intellectual competition filled with engaging and dramatic challenges.

The competing teams confidently took on a variety of exciting challenges at the Grand Finale of “Science Stories – Understanding the Human Body.”

To prepare for the project, students explored the characteristics of informational texts, explanatory writing, and the interpretation of natural phenomena in Literature classes. They also learned how to incorporate artistic elements into the creation of science comics and Ehon-style picture books. At the same time, in Natural Sciences classes, students from the High-Quality Program studied topics such as tooth decay, the harmful effects of tobacco smoke, and the functions of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Meanwhile, students from the Global Citizen Bilingual Program and Cambridge International Program explored DNA, genetics, fertilization, genetic recombination, and common genetic disorders.

During the Grand Finale, teams competed in three rounds: “Science Storytelling,” “Science Discovery,” and “Healthy Living Ambassador.” In the first round, students presented the projects they had developed during the preliminary stage through creative dramatizations. They then advanced to the “Science Discovery” round, a Golden Bell-style quiz competition featuring a series of challenging Natural Sciences questions. After the first two rounds, the seven highest-scoring classes moved on to “Healthy Living Ambassador,” where they tackled scenario-based questions in both Vietnamese and English, along with the opportunity to answer a special “Star of Hope” question.

Scientific knowledge was brought to life through creative dramatizations and engaging interactive challenges.
Throughout the competition, students demonstrated not only strong subject knowledge but also effective communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Many presentations stood out for their ability to explain scientific concepts in ways that were relatable and easy to understand, allowing the audience to learn while enjoying an energetic and engaging atmosphere. The event also provided valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and develop their ability to think quickly on stage.

Following a series of exciting competitions, the judging panel selected and honored the most outstanding teams of the “Science Stories – Understanding the Human Body” Grand Finale.
