Homeroom Teacher Training: When Teachers Become Skilled Captains of the Ship
02/08/2025
With the theme “Elevating the Role of the Homeroom Teacher,” the event offered teachers an opportunity to explore new approaches that inspire students to learn with greater enthusiasm, discover themselves, and apply knowledge to real-life situations.
To continuously innovate in teaching practices, the homeroom teacher training program for secondary school teachers at Greenfield School took place vibrantly over three days (July 30–31 and August 1).
The three-day journey began by reigniting the teachers’ sense of mission. Participants explored the Ikigai philosophy, the “reason for being” helping them find sustainable motivation for their profession. Each teacher was reminded that they are not only conveyors of knowledge but also inspirers, connectors, and companions, laying a solid foundation for students’ growth.
The program then moved into practical classroom management skills. Through the “leading with goals” approach rather than “reacting to incidents,” teachers learned how to apply SMART and SWOT frameworks to set tailored objectives for each class. The aim was to build a positive, inspiring learning environment.

One highlight of the training was the enthusiastic atmosphere as teachers collaborated to design plans and teaching ideas for the new academic year. With the goal of fostering a friendly, connected, and inspiring environment from day one, the school officially introduced the “Integration Lesson”—a special activity for the first two weeks of the school year. Alongside this, monthly homeroom topics were also developed to help students adapt to their new environment, establish positive habits, and integrate with their peers.
Although the training program has concluded, the spirit of innovation and creativity continues to flourish. It is hoped that the strategies shared will serve as a solid toolkit, empowering teachers to deliver engaging and effective lessons, paving the way for a school year filled with memorable learning experiences for all students.
