Parents play a vital role in helping their children learn to love themselves and develop their inner strength

07/01/2025

"You fail the subject you love the most, how do you overcome it?"; "You want to try something new but fear failure, how do you start?"; "You feel pressured when comparing yourself to others, how do you break free?". These were some of the situations presented to the students of Grade 7G2 during the workshop on "Loving Yourself and Developing Inner Strength" held this morning.

The workshop is part of a series organized by homeroom teachers in collaboration with parents, aiming to support students in developing knowledge, skills, and emotional well-being for holistic growth. Notably, the session was led by Ms. Huyen Nguyen —Founder of Happy Montessori Preschool and also a parent at Greenfield School.

During the two-hour workshop, Ms. Huyen Nguyen guided the students in understanding what it truly means to love themselves and identified the reasons why people sometimes struggle with self-love. Activities such as keeping a positive journal, playing sports, reading books, and practicing self-affirmation were introduced as ways to nurture self-love in a healthy manner. Beyond discovering inspiring books like "I Am Gifted, So Are You!", the students enthusiastically participated in a hands-on activity where they wrote down three positive affirmations about themselves.

The students enthusiastically engaged in the activities throughout the workshop

Additionally, the students learned that inner strength is the ability and capacity—morally, intellectually, and emotionally—to overcome challenges from within. To build this resilience, essential qualities such as confidence, perseverance, positive thinking, good health, clear goals, discipline, and responsibility are crucial. The workshop also featured short stories about inspiring individuals who have triumphed over adversity, such as Nguyen Ngoc Ky, an esteemed educator, and Be Thi Bang, the winner of the 2019 "Beauty of the Crescent Moon" contest. These stories deeply moved and motivated the students.

"Learn from experience and improve knowledge for future exams," "Set new goals and increase self-discipline," "Seek advice and support from loved ones," "Stop comparing yourself to others," and "Admire instead of feeling envious"—these are some of the strategies students chose to overcome challenges during the "Overcoming Obstacles" group activity.

Students came up with various solutions to overcome difficulties and challenges

Hope that after today's workshop, our students have learned how to truly love themselves, discovered and nurtured their inner strengths. From here, on their journey of growth, they will become more resilient, confident, and ready to conquer the goals they have set.
